Durant Wellness Center Member of the Month

Congratulations Durant Wellness Center Member of the Month Rebecca Baker *****

Halito,
Are you familiar with the phrase, “if I can do it, then you can do it?” Sounds cliché, right? I used to think so too! However, my journey back to health has me rethinking my skepticism.
I made a decision to regain my health physically and mentally. I have a background in athletics that has served me well on my comeback trail but…it wasn’t an easy one. I’ve always struggled with obesity. After high school was over and I went to college, I gained the “Freshman 15” times two! Off and on I tried diets, products, and workout plans, but nothing stayed consistent. After getting married, and had children, my body changed dramatically. I immediately regretted not staying on top of my weight loss goals. Discouragement after discouragement, I just decided to “be happy” and just live life.
It wasn’t until August of 2018, while watching my 600 Pound Life that I had THE EPIPHANY moment. As I was enjoying my double scoop hot fudge Sunday, I grew curious of my weight. Stepping on the scale, I could not believe my eyes! I was almost half the weight of the people I was watching on TV! I was angry with myself and decided that this is it! I had to make a change. I wanted to be there for my kids. I wanted to be the “active Mommy” and get to participate in their lives. I never wanted them to be ashamed or have to explain why “Mama can’t play with us”. So, I began to work out three times a week on my own plans and with videos. I was determined to see where I was in a year. After all, some progress is better than no progress, right? Slowly but surely, I began to see some small results. However, I began to get bored with the same ole’ thing over and over. I didn’t feel like I had the motivation, desire, or knowledge to create more effective workouts for quicker results, therefore, I plateaued and began to get discouraged but I continued because “some progress is better than none”.
It wasn’t until April 2019, after another discussion with my husband that I decided to get some help. I needed a personal trainer. I always held back from this option because I have always been self-conscience about working out in front of other people… (Yes, even as a former athlete). So, in May 2019, I took that step and made an appointment for a consultation with the Choctaw Nation Wellness Center in Durant. Right away I knew this was going to be a game changer. Not only was the Staff friendly and more than helpful, but the atmosphere in the center was refreshing. I was honest with the consultant and explained my goals, strengths, weaknesses, and concerns. Immediately, she said, “I know the perfect trainer for you!” The next day, I met Michaela Wiyninger! I cannot say enough about her professionalism, relatability, encouragement, and knowledge about fitness. We were definitely a great match then and we still are. Needless to say, I am no longer plateauing and my results have been incredible, I have lost 11% BF and have gained 5lbs of lean muscle mass! I’m going on 7 months of attendance with my amazing trainer and I can’t wait to see where I am in a year.
In closing, I’d like to say that I’m truly humbled to have been considered and recognized as Member of the Month. I’m thankful for this facility and the Staff and look forward to what my future results will be. I hope my story can be an encouragement to someone else’s situation. God bless!
Yakoke,
Rebecca Baker
